In the seventh round of the Clausura, Cruz Azul emerged victorious at home this Sunday against Chivas. The first goal for Cruz Azul came in the 33rd minute of the first half, when Gabriel Fernández skillfully headed the ball past the opposing goalkeeper, giving his team the lead. Yet, Chivas struck back with a header that temporarily leveled the score in the 81st minute. In a moment of brilliance, Carlos Rodríguez found the perfect space to make a decisive strike in the 39th minute of the second half, securing the final score.
Chivas had an opportunity to equalize shortly after, but Hugo Camberos’ shot hit the post, denying them the chance.
The standout player of the match was Carlos Rodríguez, who showcased his talent by netting a key goal. Gabriel Fernández also shone, not only scoring a goal but taking two shots, contributing significantly to Cruz Azul’s performance.
Head coach Nicolás Larcamón opted for a 3-4-3 formation with Andrés Gudiño guarding the net; Willer Ditta, Erik Lira, and Gonzalo Piovi forming the defense; a midfield consisting of Jorge Rodarte, Agustín Palavecino, Jeremy Márquez, and Rodolfo Rotondi; and an attacking trio of José Paradela, Gabriel Fernández, and Carlos Rodríguez.
On the other hand, Gabriel Milito’s squad deployed a similar 3-4-3 structure, featuring Raúl Rangel in goal; Daniel Aguirre, Diego Campillo, and José Castillo at the back; Richard Ledezma, Omar Govea, Fernando González, and Bryan González in the middle; and Roberto Alvarado, Efraín Álvarez, and Armando González up front.
Maximiliano Quintero Hernández was appointed as the referee for the match held at Estadio Cuauhtémoc.
Looking ahead, Cruz Azul will face CF Monterrey in their next outing while Chivas will play away against Toluca FC.
This result places Cruz Azul in second place in the league with 16 points, while Chivas, with 18 points, remains at the top of the table.
