No one managed to take clear advantage in the match held at Estadio El Coloso del Parque, resulting in a 1-1 stalemate between La Lepra and El Rojo on matchday 2 of the Apertura.
Gabriel Ávalos opened the scoring for Independiente at the 33rd minute of the first half. However, in a spectacular turn of events, Michael Hoyos equalized for Newell’s in the 43rd minute of the second half.
Hoyos’ outstanding moment came when he scored with a brilliant header into the right post of the opponent’s net, assisted by Walter Nuñez.
