On Monday, the United States clinched a 2-0 win against Italy in an international friendly at Chase Stadium. Catarina Macario opened the scoring for the USA in the 20th minute of the first half, and just before halftime, midfielder Jaedyn Shaw sealed the game with a well-placed shot in the 41st minute.
US midfielder Claire Hutton had two golden opportunities to change the scoreline, but the woodwork denied her on both attempts.
Catarina Macario emerged as the standout player of the match, netting one goal and attempting four shots on target. Lily Yohannes was another key player for the USA, attempting two shots towards the goal.
US head coach Emma Hayes set up her team in a 4-5-1 formation, featuring Claudia Dickey in goal; a defensive line made up of Emily Fox, Jordyn Bugg, Naomi Girma, and Kate Wiesner; a midfield trio of Claire Hutton, Lindsey Heaps, Jaedyn Shaw, Lily Yohannes, and Alyssa Thompson; and Catarina Macario leading the attack.
On the other side, Italian coach Andrea Soncin deployed a 4-3-3 formation with Francesca Durante guarding the net; a defense composed of Martina Lenzini, Cecilia Salvai, Elena Linari, and Lucia Di Guglielmo; a midfield trio of Arianna Caruso, Eva Schatzer, and Giulia Dragoni; and a forward line of Agnese Bonfantini, Martina Piemonte, and Alice Corelli.
