In the 12th round of the Clausura, Rosario Central triumphed over Vélez with a score of 2-1 in a thrilling match held on Saturday. The Canalla took an early lead in the 16th minute with a well-placed header from Alejo Veliz. However, Vélez fought back just five minutes into the second half when Manuel Lanzini scored from a free kick, leveling the match.
Despite their equalizer, Rosario Central secured the win when Ignacio Malcorra converted a penalty in the 51st minute of the same half, sealing three points for the visitors.
Vélez had their chances but were unlucky, with Tomás Galván striking the post on two occasions, further complicating their efforts to find a second goal.
Malcorra emerged as the standout player, contributing not only with a goal but also completing 42 accurate passes and attempting two shots on goal. Lanzini was also integral to Vélez’s performance, scoring the lone goal for his side, completing 32 passes, and making three interceptions.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s Vélez opted for a 4-5-1 formation with Tomás Marchiori in goal, while their defensive line comprised Agustín Lagos, Emanuel Mammana, Aarón Quirós, and Elías Gómez. The midfield included Franco Ibarra, Ignacio Malcorra, Enzo Giménez, Ángel Di María, and Santiago López, with Alejo Veliz up front.
