Despite a strong effort from FC Dallas, they fell short as San Diego FC clinched a hard-fought victory with a final score of 3-2. The match, held at Toyota Stadium, showcased the determination of Michael Anthony Varas’ squad, who turned a negative situation into a positive one thanks to goals from Anders Dreyer (25’ penalty, 1st half), Hirving Lozano (31’, 2nd half), and Tomás Ángel (51’, 2nd half). FC Dallas had briefly taken the lead with goals from Petar Musa (43’, 1st half) and Sebastián Lletget (10’, 2nd half), but it ultimately wasn’t enough.
Hirving Lozano earned prominent praise for his remarkable strike at the 31-minute mark in the second half. After a precise assist from Milan Iloski, Lozano expertly placed the ball into the bottom left corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
Tomás Ángel emerged as the standout player of the match, scoring once and making two shots on target for San Diego FC. Another key contributor was Anders Dreyer, who not only netted a goal but also attempted six shots throughout the game.
Eric Quill, the head coach of FC Dallas, deployed a tactical setup of 5-3-2 with Maarten Paes guarding the net; Shaquell Moore, Nolan Norris, Álvaro Augusto, Lalas Abubakar, and Marco Farfan in the defense; and Luciano Acosta, Sebastián Lletget, and Patrickson Delgado in midfield, supported by forwards Petar Musa and Bernard Kamungo.
On the flip side, Michael Anthony Varas’ team operated in a 4-3-3 formation with Carlos dos Santos in goal; Oscar Verhoeven, Christopher McVey, Ian Pilcher, and Luca Bombino in defense; Onni Valakari, Manu Duah, and Jeppe Tverskov in midfield; and a forward line comprised of Anders Dreyer, Milan Iloski, and Alex Mighten.
The referee, Guido Gonzales Jr., oversaw the thrilling encounter at Toyota Stadium.
Looking ahead, FC Dallas will host Minnesota United, while San Diego FC will face Houston at home.
