In a gripping encounter on Thursday for the fifth round of Group A in the Intermedio, Cerro edged past Cerro Largo with a score of 2-1. The game’s first breakthrough occurred in the 31st minute of the first half when Enzo Larrosa converted a penalty, sending the home crowd into jubilation.
However, the match took an unexpected turn when Cerro Largo equalized shortly after halftime, thanks to a clever play from Máximo Alonso. He found the net in the 21st minute of the second half, temporarily leveling the score.
But it was Cerro who snatched the win in a nail-biting finish, with a decisive goal from Máximo Alonso in the 44th minute of the same half, ensuring a thrilling conclusion to the match.
Máximo Alonso emerged as the standout performer of the night, showcasing an exceptional level of play and scoring a crucial goal for Cerro. On the other side, Mauricio Affonso’s efforts were notable as well, as he found the back of the net for Cerro Largo.
