Displaying their football prowess in an electrifying encounter held at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the Colorado Rapids overwhelmed the Houston Dynamo with a commanding 6-2 victory.
The local team opened the scoring early, with Kosi Thompson netting two goals (5’ 1H and 7’ 2H), alongside Joshua Atencio (16’ 1H), Rafael Navarro with a brace (28’ 2H and a penalty at 49’ 2H), and an own goal from Felipe Andrade (45’ 2H). Houston’s goals came from Lawrence Ennali (23’ 2H) and Guilherme (47’ 2H).
Kosi Thompson earned accolades for his brilliant finish in the second half, scoring a stunning goal after a solo run down the left and unleashing a powerful shot that left goalkeeper Jonathan Bond with no chance as it found the bottom right corner.
Both teams had opportunities that struck the woodwork, with Duane Holmes and Dante Sealy unable to celebrate their efforts.
Guilherme shone as Houston’s standout player, contributing with a goal and six shots on target.
Rafael Navarro also had a stellar game for Colorado, scoring twice and making four attempts.
Rapids’ head coach, Matthew Wells, utilized a 3-4-3 formation featuring Zack Steffen in goal; Kosi Thompson, Lucas Herrington, and Rob Holding in defense; Paxten Aaronson, Hamzat Ojediran, Joshua Atencio, and Wayne Frederick II in midfield; and Darren Yapi, Rafael Navarro, and Dante Sealy in attack.
On the other side, Houston’s manager Benjamin Olsen adopted a 4-3-3 setup with Jonathan Bond in goal; Duane Holmes, Erik Sviatchenko, Antônio Carlos, and Felipe Andrade forming the defense; Agustín Bouzat, Diadie Samassekou, and Lawrence Ennali in midfield; and Mateusz Bogusz, Ezequiel Ponce, and Guilherme leading the attack.
