In the 7th week of the MLS season, San José Earthquakes emerged victorious with a score of 3-1 against Sporting Kansas City. Jack Skahan was the star of the match, scoring a double with goals in the 44th minute of the first half and at the 49th minute of the second half. The third goal from San José was added by Dave Romney in the 74th minute, while Jacob Bartlett was the lone scorer for Sporting Kansas City, finding the net in the 27th minute.
The second half kicked off with a brilliant play by the Earthquakes just minutes in, as Jack Skahan finished a well-placed cross from Preston Judd, sending the ball into the back of the net.
Jack Skahan was undoubtedly the most valuable player on the field, showcasing his ability by scoring two goals and taking two shots on target.
Defensively, Dave Romney also made his mark, not only contributing a goal but also solidifying the backline with his strong defensive play.
Sporting Kansas City, under the guidance of coach Raphael Wicky, deployed a 4-3-3 formation featuring John Pulskamp in goal, alongside Justin Reynolds, Ian James, Diego Borges, and Jayden Reid in defense, supported by Jacob Bartlett, Manu García, and Lasse Berg in midfield, with Magomed Suleymanov, Dejan Joveljic, and Calvin Harris leading the attack.
Conversely, the Earthquakes, coached by Bruce Arena, fielded a similar 4-3-3 setup with Daniel guarding the goal; Benji Kikanovic, Daniel Munie, Reid Roberts, and Dave Romney in the defense; Nikolas Tsakiris, Ronaldo Vieira, and Beau Leroux in midfield; and up front, Jack Skahan, Preston Judd, and Ousseni Bouda.
The match was officiated by referee Allen Chapman at Children’s Mercy Park.
