In a thrilling encounter at the Akron Stadium, Chivas managed to level the score against Pumas UNAM, thanks to a stellar performance by Armando González, who netted two goals. The match, which took place for the 13th round of the Clausura, ended in a 2-2 draw. González’s goals came in the 69th minute (penalty) and in the 56th minute of the second half. On the other hand, Pumas found the net through Uriel Antuna in the 20th minute of the first half and an unfortunate own goal by José Castillo in the 40th minute.
A standout moment came from Antuna’s goal in the 20th minute, where he capitalized on a well-placed cross from Juninho Vieira, scoring from inside the box and giving Pumas an early lead.
Despite Chivas having a significant advantage in shots, with 14 on target compared to Pumas’s attempts, they could only secure a draw at their home ground.
Armando González’s impressive display earned him the title of man of the match, showcasing his skills with two well-taken goals and six attempts on target.
Keylor Navas, the Pumas’ goalkeeper, also had a remarkable game, making 10 crucial saves to keep his team in the contest.
Chivas coach Gabriel Milito deployed a 4-5-1 formation with Raúl Rangel in goal, supported by Richard Ledezma, José Castillo, Diego Campillo, and Bryan González in defense; Luis Romo, Fernando González, Roberto Alvarado, Daniel Aguirre, and Efraín Álvarez forming the midfield; and Armando González leading the attack.
In contrast, Pumas, managed by Efraín Juárez, arranged themselves in a 4-4-2 setup with Keylor Navas guarding the net, a defensive line of Rodrigo López, Nathanael Ananias, Rubén Duarte, and Álvaro Angulo; Uriel Antuna, Alan Medina, Jordan Carrillo, and Pedro Vite in midfield; and Juninho Vieira paired with Robert Morales upfront.
The referee for this exciting match was Ismael López Peñuelas.
