In the seventh round of the Apertura, River Plate hosted Banfield on Thursday, achieving a convincing 3-1 victory at the Estadio Mas Monumental. The home team opened the scoring early with a header from Lucas Martínez Quarta in the 12th minute. However, Banfield managed to equalize just before halftime with a goal in the 44th minute.
Despite the equalizer, River’s determination under Marcelo Gallardo led them to secure the win with two additional goals in the second half, scored by Sebastián Driussi in the 47th minute and Joaquín Freitas in the 57th minute.
Lucas Martínez Quarta drew applause for his precise header from a pass by Ian Subiabre, placing the ball into the right corner of the goal. In the 45th minute of the second half, River had an opportunity to extend their lead, but Ian Subiabre’s shot hit the post.
Sebastián Driussi was undoubtedly the standout player of the match, showcasing his skills by scoring one goal, taking four shots on target, and completing 42 successful passes.
Defensively, Lucas Martínez Quarta made significant contributions, scoring one goal, intercepting three balls, and clearing four dangerous plays from Banfield’s attack.
Coach Marcelo Gallardo employed a 4-3-3 tactical setup, featuring Santiago Beltrán in goal; a backline of Gonzalo Montiel, Lucas Martínez Quarta, Lautaro Rivero, and Facundo González; midfielders Fausto Vera, Aníbal Moreno, and Tomás Galván; and a forward trio of Sebastián Driussi, Joaquín Freitas, and Ian Subiabre.
On the other hand, Banfield, managed by Pedro Troglio, lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Facundo Sanguinetti in goal; a defense consisting of Santiago López García, Danilo Arboleda, Sergio Vittor, and Ignacio Abraham; a midfield made up of Lautaro Gómez, Lautaro Villegas, Ignacio Pais Mayan, and Lisandro Piñero; and a forward pair of Mauro Méndez and Tiziano Perrotta.
