On Tuesday, Vélez achieved a narrow victory over Talleres, winning 2-1 in the second round of the Apertura tournament. Talleres initially took the lead with a header from Augusto Schott in the 26th minute of the first half. However, Vélez changed the course of the game, thanks to goals from Manuel Lanzini (7’ into the second half from a set-piece) and Roberto García (34’ of the second half following a well-crafted play).
Although Talleres had more shooting opportunities during the match, with a total of 18 attempts, they struggled to find the back of the net. Out of their total shots, only 8 were on target, while 10 were off the mark.
Roberto García emerged as the standout player of the match, making an impact by scoring 1 goal. Another key player was Manuel Lanzini, who not only scored once but also tested the goalkeeper with 2 additional shots.
Head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto chose a 4-4-2 formation for Vélez, featuring Álvaro Montero in goal; Jano Gordón, Lisandro Magallán, Aarón Quirós, and Elías Gómez in defense; a midfield comprised of Tobías Andrada, Claudio Baeza, Rodrigo Aliendro, and Manuel Lanzini; and a forward duo of Matías Arias and Braian Romero.
