In an impressive display, Roma triumphed over Genoa with a final score of 3-1 during the 17th round of Serie A. Under the management of Gian Piero Gasperini, the home side exhibited complete control of the match, jumping to an early lead with two goals from Matías Soulé in the 13th minute and Manu Koné shortly after in the 18th minute. Evan Ferguson added a third goal with a powerful shot just 30 minutes into the first half. Although Genoa managed to find the net through Jeff Ekhator with a goal in the 41st minute of the second half, it was not enough to secure a comeback.
Manu Koné earned plaudits for his exceptional finish at the 18-minute mark, converting a precise assist from Evan Ferguson with a neat strike from inside the box.
Koné was close to extending the lead in the 37th minute, only to see his shot hit the post.
Evan Ferguson’s performance shone brightly, marking him as the standout player of the match. The forward not only scored a goal but also made two attempts on target.
Matías Soulé also demonstrated his talent by scoring one goal and taking two additional shots during the match.
Gian Piero Gasperini set up his team in a 3-6-1 formation with Mile Svilar in goal; Gianluca Mancini, Jan Ziolkowski, and Mario Hermoso forming the back line; Zeki Celik, Bryan Cristante, Manu Koné, Wesley França, Matías Soulé, and Paulo Dybala in midfield; and Evan Ferguson up front.
On the other side, Daniele De Rossi’s squad adopted a 3-5-2 formation, featuring Daniele Sommariva in goal; Sebastian Otoa, Leo Östigard, and Johan Vásquez in defense; Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Morten Frendrup, Mikael Ellertsson, and Aarón Martín in midfield; and Vítor Oliveira and Caleb Ekuban leading the attack.
The match, officiated by Marco Di Bello, took place at the Stadio Olimpico.
Looking ahead, Roma will face Atalanta in their next encounter while Genoa will host Pisa.
