Independiente Medellín celebrated a significant win on Monday by defeating Junior 2-1 in the sixth round of Group A in the first division. The match started with a goal from Brayan León, who netted in the 29th minute following a well-coordinated play. Shortly after the break, José Ortiz increased the lead for Medellín with a precise shot in the 54th minute.
Junior managed to pull one back just three minutes into the second half when Bryan Castrillón scored with a clever strike to the bottom right corner, assisted by Guillermo Paiva. However, despite their efforts, the team struggled to find an equalizer before the final whistle.
It’s worth noting that Edwin Herrera had a chance to level the score for Junior but missed a penalty in the 39th minute of the first half.
José Ortiz emerged as the standout player of the match, contributing significantly by scoring a goal and successfully clearing eight dangerous balls from his area. Brayan León also shone at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium, adding another goal to his name and attempting two shots on target.
The head coach of Independiente Medellín, Alejandro Restrepo, employed a 4-4-2 formation, featuring Éder Chaux in goal; Esneyder Mena, Kevin Mantilla, José Ortiz, and Juan David Arizala in defense; Alexis Serna, Jaime Alvarado, Leider Berrío, and Jarlan Barrera in midfield; and Francisco Fydriszewski and Brayan León up front.
On the other side, coach Alfredo Arias orchestrated his team’s game using a 4-3-3 format, with Mauro Silveira as the goalkeeper; Edwin Herrera, Javier Báez, Jermein Peña, and Yeison Suárez in defense; Carlos Esparragoza, Didier Moreno, and Jesús Rivas in midfield; and José Enamorado, Guillermo Paiva, and Yimmi Chará leading the attack.
