In a dominant display at the Estadio El Bosque, Gimnasia secured a 2-0 victory over Vélez on matchday 15 of the Clausura. Marcelo Torres opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, followed by a second goal from Jeremías Merlo in the 22nd minute of the second half.
Torres received applause for his brilliant strike just before half-time. After a precise cross from Alejandro Piedrahita, the forward found the back of the net with a well-timed shot from inside the box.
Vélez’s Rodrigo Aliendro came close on two occasions, hitting the woodwork, but was unable to convert those chances into goals.
Marcelo Torres was undoubtedly the standout player of the match, contributing with one goal, four shots on target, and ten successful passes.
Alejandro Piedrahita also had an impressive performance, completing 19 accurate passes.
Gimnasia’s coach, Fernando Zaniratto, opted for a 4-5-1 formation, featuring Nelson Insfrán in goal; a defensive line of Juan Pintado, Renzo Giampaoli, Enzo Martínez, and Pedro Silva Torrejón; a midfield comprising Augusto Max, Nicolás Barros Schelotto, Manuel Panaro, Bautista Merlini, and Alejandro Piedrahita; with Marcelo Torres leading the attack.
On the other side, Vélez, managed by Guillermo Barros Schelotto, also lined up in a 4-5-1 formation, with Tomás Marchiori as the goalkeeping last line; defenders Jano Gordón, Thiago Silvero, Aarón Quirós, and Elías Gómez; midfielders Rodrigo Aliendro, Agustín Bouzat, Diego Valdés, Maher Carrizo, and Francisco Pizzini; with Dilan Godoy at the forefront.
