FC St. Pauli showcased their resilience by coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Augsburg at Millerntor Stadion in a thrilling Bundesliga match this Sunday.
Despite their slow start, the home team found themselves trailing after Fabian Rieder scored with a towering header in the 16th minute. However, the hosts didn’t give up and equalized just before half-time through a well-crafted team move finished by Andreas Hountondji in the 45th minute. The second half saw Danel Sinani put FC St. Pauli ahead with a goal in the 77th minute, sealing a remarkable comeback.
A miss from the penalty spot by Hountondji in the 45th minute could have changed the game’s dynamics, but he more than made up for it with his overall performance.
Sinani was undoubtedly the standout player of the match with his decisive goal, while Hountondji contributed significantly with a goal and two shots on target.
FC St. Pauli’s manager, Alexander Blessin, opted for a 5-3-2 formation, starting Nikola Vasilj in goal, with a defense consisting of Adam Dzwigala, Eric Smith, Hauke Wahl, Louis Oppie, and Arkadiusz Pyrka. The midfield included Joel Fujita, James Sands, and Mathias Pereira Lage, while Hountondji and Sinani led the attack.
Augsburg, under Sandro Wagner, employed a 4-4-2 setup with Finn Dahmen as their goalkeeper, supported by Cedric Zesiger, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, Chrislain Matsima, and Marius Wolf in defense. Their midfield featured Han Noah Massengo, Kristijan Jakic, Elvis Rexhbecaj, and Rieder, while Mert Komur and Elias Saad were the front two.
The match, officiated by referee Harm Osmers, saw FC St. Pauli rise to fourth place in the league with seven points, while Augsburg remains in tenth with three points.
